More Thoughts on True Things for May 10, 2017

As a Christian, I believe in the inerrant Word of God, the Bible. Many things that are in the Bible are discounted as fantasy or fiction by those in education and science. I will look at two contentions and comment

The Physical World
the Bible states that God, the eternal, triune being, treated all that exists in 6 days. That means that everything that exists, except for God, was created by God in six days. The earth, the planets, plants, people, angels, demons, any other spiritual being and everything else you can imagine or not imagine. Evolutionists say that the earth is many millions of years old and that the universe is billions of years old. If they are, they were created in six days. I do not, however, believe that the universe is billions of years old and I believe that evolution in a crock of bilge water.

This is because the Bible tells us of a man name Noah. Sin was out of control on the earth. God says “every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen 6:5). So God selected Noah, had him build a boat and take a bunch of animals and his family as God flooded the earth and killed and air breathing beasts and people. No one knows when this universal, world-wide flood occurred but it most likely happened several thousand years ago, not millions and not billions.

Spiritual being
There is much interested in spiritual beings and more than or extra human type beings. These are vampires, werewolves and zombies no name the most popular. Back to my previous point, if something or someone exists, God created it. There is evil in the world and God created the source of evil (Satan and people) but God did not create evil. I would postulate that vampires and werewolves and zombies do not exist as a special class of being, because the Bible does not speak of them. The class of beings that the Bible speaks about are angels (both good angels and demons), living creatures who worship God in heaven and people. Now, some might say that these beings are created out of humans: Vampires with a bite, werewolves with a bit and zombies with a virus or a bite or some other event. Understanding this, these being are just diseased and sick and not extra-human. I, however, do not believe that these beings exist. Yes, there is anecdotal evidence for Voodoo practicers in the Caribbean who can put people in a trance and of course Vlad the impaler is credited with the Dracula origins.

Today in entertainment, various evil and undead and extra-human beings are shown to autonomous and natural or normal. God is sovereign over all. Demons do not just run wild doing whatever they want. Spells only work because the demon lets them work and God lets the demon work in that way. People who get into spiritual pursuits without even a nod to the creator God of the universe are in for a world of hurt.

I will end from a passage from Romans 8:31-35 which makes it clear that God followers will win.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? (Romans 8:31-35, ESV)

Cornerstone Fellowship

Cornerstone Fellowship started preaching truth in 1946, right after WW II.  It has been a light in a changing community and a changing world for the past 70 years.  Currently I am the pastor of Cornerstone.  My name is Michael L. Wilson.  It is my goal to preach truth and to explain truth to all who attend.   We subscribe to the reformed view of Christianity which includes the  Five Solas , or the five foundational "only" beliefs.   If you are looking for a Christ Centered church, let me recommend  Cornerstone Fellowship

Thoughts on “agnostic”

Prior to being a pastor I was a believer in Jesus Christ.  I was raised in church and sought out a church every Sunday no matter where I was.  In other words, I consider myself a true believer in Jesus Christ and the Christian religion.  I am an exception in today’s society.  People who are willing to stand up and state that they are basing their lives on the teaching of Jesus Christ is rare. Many years ago, when I was a computer programmer, I worked with all sorts of people.  Buddhists and Hindus and even some Christians.  Most of the tech crowd were what I would call “casual atheists.”  This means that they never gave church or the Bible a second thought.  They go through life and never think about God.  If asked, many would say they believe in God, probably because they were taken to church as a child.  But any definition of this God could not be given by most of these people. One person I meant actually called himself an agnostic...
