I am a Disciple of Jesus Christ

I am a part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have Holy Spirit Power. The die has been cast. I
have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I Am a Disciple of Christ. I Am a Disciple of Christ and will not look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still. I Am a Disciple of Christ and my past is redeemed, my present makes sense and my future is secure. I Am a Disciple of Christ who is finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, pained vision, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals. I Am a Disciple of Christ and no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotion, plaudits or popularity. I Am a Disciple of Christ and do not have to be first, top, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded. I now live by faith. I Am a Disciple of Christ and lean on Christ’s presence, walk by faith, am uplifted by prayer, and labor by His power. I Am a Disciple of Christ and my faith is fixed, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, and my way is rough. I Am a Disciple of Christ and my companions are few, my guide is reliable, and my mission is clear. I Am a Disciple of Christ and cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I Am a Disciple of Christ and will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I Am a Disciple of Christ and will not give up, shut up or let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and taught up for the cause of Christ. I Am a Disciple of Christ and must go until He comes, give until I drop, teach until all know, and work until He stops me. When Christ comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me. My title will be clear; I AM A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST.

Remembering the Franklin Day Planner

This week I have been rereading Hyrum Smith's book "The 10 Natural Laws of Productivity and Happiness." This book was written in the late 1980s and I remember reading it for the first time when I was working at Seagate Technologies, after my time in the Air Force. The core tool talked about in the book is the Franklin Day Planner . I remembering having one such planner, long before smart phones and Palm devices. Mine was a leather bound loose-leaf binder with calendar and note pages in it. I kept my daily tasks list and appointments in that binder, which became a record of my work history at Seagate and beyond. The Day Planner binders, pages and supplies were sold at a store called Franklin Quest , which was located at Valco Mall in Sunnyvale. At that time, I was a computer programmer. I was able to keep a record of all request for software, who made the request and when and what the requirements were. It seemed that I was the only one keeping a record of this b...

Thoughts on the 2017 iPhones

Apple released the iPhone 8 a week or so ago.  Apple will release the iPhone X on November 3, 2017.  This is part of Apple’s current annual release of updated phones with better screens, more battery life and a better processor.  I bought my iPhone 7 plus on release day in September of 2016.  I went to the Apple store and bought it.  When thinking about whether I need to update my phone this year, I need to consider a few things. First, is my phone functional or did I break it?  My phone is in good working order.  The screen is not cracked, the non-existent home button still works.  Volume and power and silent switches work.  Mechanically the phone is in good shape.  It took the IOS 11 and IOS 11.01 updates without a problem. The next question is this:  what do I use my phone for and will a faster phone with a better screen help me do these things? Podcasts:  I listen to many podcasts on my phone.  I listen to a mix ...

What do I preach?

I preach the Word of God.  The style I use is called expositional exegetical .  I draw the meaning out of the Scripture and explain it.  I believe this is the only approved type of preaching.  To preach events out of the newspaper or the latest psychology fad does nothing to edify the saints or glorify God and certainly it does not contain the power to save. The context for my preaching is that I preach through books of the Bible.  Most recently I have been preaching through the gospel of John.  I started in John 1:1 and last Sunday I preached through John 21:15-17.  Charles Spurgeon preached through the entire Bible, but did not take the verses in order.  He bounced around, and got through the entire Bible. One of the most popular styles of preaching in large churches or churches that want to be large is a style called “topical.”  Traditionally topical preaching takes a topic that is from the news or something that the pastor is reading....
