Thoughts on the Gap theory

The Bible is a closed book.  When God was done writing the Old Testament, he stopped until Matthew.  When he wrote Revelation, he stopped.  There are warnings in the Bible about adding or subtracting words from the Bible. Deuteronomy 4:2 & 12:32 and Revelation 22:18 are the three most specific.  The idea throughout the Bible is that this book is inspired Scripture and people have no right or authority to add to them or take away.

This is why the Gap theory is so strange.  People probably feel it would be too obvious to add 16 extra chapters to Romans or Ephesians, so they try and sneak some extra stuff into Genesis.  That is the Gap Theory.

The Gap Theory says that there is a space of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.  The space that some people insert is a couple of hundred years all the way up to billions of years.  The most popular use for the Gap Theory is to put the entire evolutionary process between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.  People who cannot believe that God created say there is a 4-5 billion year gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.  Another less popular view is that there was a pre-Adam civilization and it exists between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, in the gap.  There are many speculations about this pre-Bible civilization.  Some say that the queen of that world was Lilith.  Some say that land was like the Game of Thrones from T.V..  Others say that the lost city of Atlantis was the capital of that ancient world.  They all seem to agree that these “people” displeased God and he destroyed them and tried a second time with Adam and Eve.  All of the very ancient ruins we find, they would say, are from the pre-Adam civilization.  All this is speculative, stupid and blasphemous.

God is eternal, so he sees and knows everything and he is everywhere.  God did not write the book of Genesis through Moses without knowing all that happened.  God is not a trickster.  The Bible is not a puzzle book.  It is true to say that the Bible contains all we need to know for life and godliness, but God is not keeping things from humans, hoping that we discover the secret.  If there was a previous civilization, God would clearly have stated it.  If evolution, in all its destructive wastefulness was true, God would have stated it.  God does not lie.  Yet there are those who say the Bible starts at Genesis 11, and the first 10 chapters are all fairy tale.  the Bible starts at Genesis 1:1 and goes all the way through the Revelation.

The Bible is complete and we need nothing else.  We need no other information or history to follow God.  Yet, just the other day, I heard someone say that there was no Gap Theory, there was a Gap FACT!  This person likes to put words in God’s mouth and they will be judged for it in the last days.  Take the Bible as written, read it, believe it and study it and know what God intended you to know and not fantasies about ancient civilizations before Adam

Cornerstone Fellowship

Cornerstone Fellowship started preaching truth in 1946, right after WW II.  It has been a light in a changing community and a changing world for the past 70 years.  Currently I am the pastor of Cornerstone.  My name is Michael L. Wilson.  It is my goal to preach truth and to explain truth to all who attend.   We subscribe to the reformed view of Christianity which includes the  Five Solas , or the five foundational "only" beliefs.   If you are looking for a Christ Centered church, let me recommend  Cornerstone Fellowship

Thoughts on “agnostic”

Prior to being a pastor I was a believer in Jesus Christ.  I was raised in church and sought out a church every Sunday no matter where I was.  In other words, I consider myself a true believer in Jesus Christ and the Christian religion.  I am an exception in today’s society.  People who are willing to stand up and state that they are basing their lives on the teaching of Jesus Christ is rare. Many years ago, when I was a computer programmer, I worked with all sorts of people.  Buddhists and Hindus and even some Christians.  Most of the tech crowd were what I would call “casual atheists.”  This means that they never gave church or the Bible a second thought.  They go through life and never think about God.  If asked, many would say they believe in God, probably because they were taken to church as a child.  But any definition of this God could not be given by most of these people. One person I meant actually called himself an agnostic...
