Thoughts on Dinosaurs

There is a commercial on TV where there is a flying lizard and a larger flying lizard comes along side.  This is advertising some dinosaur exhibit at some learning center of museum in Northern California.  When we see animations like this, some may think that this is actually what ancient reptile beasts looked like.  When we think of dinosaurs, we need to understand a few things.

  1. We have no idea what dinosaurs looked like.  We have no idea what any of them sounded like.  We don’t know what color they were or what texture their skin was (mostly).
  2. We have no idea what they ate.
  3. We have no idea if they were friendly and docile or violent and full of rage.
  4. We have no idea how they walked, how fast they walked or if any of them flew.
  5. We have no idea why we don’t have any dinosaurs on earth anymore.

This is because we have never found a dinosaur.  In fact we have only found the spaces where their bones were.  When a dinosaur died, it may have gotten buried.  All the skin and muscle and soft tissue would decomposed be eaten away and the hard bones would remain.  The bone would either become petrified or just leave a void space as they evaporated.  Archeologists dig up the petrified bones or find the void space and fill it with resin or cement.  Mammoths are different.  We found one frozen.  But the old reptile dinosaurs are all just a collection of left over things that are not really dinosaurs.

So people put the bone replacements together and claim they know what a dinosaur looked like, how it walked, what it sounded like and what it ate.  We know none of this.  That is all well and good until they make a mistake.

Remember the brontosaurus?  So do it.  It was the favorite of school children everywhere.  Small head on a long neck, big fat body and a long skinny tail.  However, oops, it does not exist.  The fight goes back to the 1880s when they found everything but the skull.  Then in 2015, they reversed themselves and said that the lovable brontosaurus actually does exist.  In other words, they are making it up and have no idea, but claim they have absolute fact.

Some facts about dinosaurs:  they are mentioned in the Bible.  The land beasts are called behemoth and the water dwelling, fire breathing dragon creature is called leviathan.  When God flooded the entire earth, dinosaurs were taken on the ark.  If they are reptiles, an adult would be the size of a sheep.  Reptiles reach adulthood, then just grow and grow.   A couple dozen sheep could easily fit on the ark.  Some sociologists have suggested that the ancient stories of St. George slaying the fire breathing dragon are actually remembered stories of humans hunting dinosaurs to extinction.  The point is we don’t know.  I don’t know and neither do the scientists who claim all sorts of ancient knowledge.  My theories are more fun.  I can say with certainty that God created the land dwelling and sea dwelling dinosaurs and everything else.  Dinosaurs went the way of the Dodo either due to some natural event or human hunting, either way, God was and is involved.

Remembering the Franklin Day Planner

This week I have been rereading Hyrum Smith's book "The 10 Natural Laws of Productivity and Happiness." This book was written in the late 1980s and I remember reading it for the first time when I was working at Seagate Technologies, after my time in the Air Force. The core tool talked about in the book is the Franklin Day Planner . I remembering having one such planner, long before smart phones and Palm devices. Mine was a leather bound loose-leaf binder with calendar and note pages in it. I kept my daily tasks list and appointments in that binder, which became a record of my work history at Seagate and beyond. The Day Planner binders, pages and supplies were sold at a store called Franklin Quest , which was located at Valco Mall in Sunnyvale. At that time, I was a computer programmer. I was able to keep a record of all request for software, who made the request and when and what the requirements were. It seemed that I was the only one keeping a record of this b...

Thoughts on Assistance

Today I received a call from a person wanting rental assistance. Apparently they got kicked out of their place of residence and having found a room to rent, they just needed someone to pay for it. I am not sure how this person got our phone number. We are listed in the phone book and our phone number is on our marquee. However they found us they had the idea that a church, any church, our church should pay for their rent. This is a very strange notion. I come in contact with many people, many who call and some who come and knock on the door of the church. These people do not attend our church and they give no evidence that they even believe in the same things we do. There is no relationship between these beggars and our church, yet there is the assumption that our church, or any church is just handing out cash to anyone who asks. This is what is strange. Why would any organization spend all their money on people who do not participate, attend or believe like us. Some mig...
