Thoughts on Lawyers

Anyone who goes to school and gets a job in their field wants to be a success and earn a good living. Lawyers are no exception.  The difficulty is that things have gotten out of hand concerning lawyers and the law.  For example the Federal government has written a law called the ADA to give regulations on how disabled people are to be given access.  California took that law and made it much stricter.  Instead of putting a financial fine on people who break this law, California allows lawyers to sue people who violate the California ADA.  Now the California ADA is a very precise and complicated piece of legislature.  Therefore I could go into any school, church, business or government building and say they are in violation of both the Federal and State ADA and I would be correct.  No one complies with it, it is impossible.

So, lawyers like Scott Johnson in the Sacramento area go on Google maps, find businesses and send demand letters.  He randomly picks some part of the ADA and demands that they comply.  He gives them an option to avoid prosecution, however.  If they give him $25,000 cash he will drop the case.  Johnson has made tens of millions of dollars and put countless businesses out of business.

Last week the California assembly passed a law stating that all compliance and regulatory laws will now be enforced by the lawyers.  The lawyers of this great state get to sue people into compliance, for everything from pollution to parking to roofing and solar panels.  My guess is that this will be another boon for extortionist lawyers to get money under the table.

America is a litigious place with the courts clogged with people suing other people looking for that payday.  The last time I was called to jury duty, involved case where a lady was suing the state of California.  She was suing the state because she was rear-ended by a man who was sick and could not get heath coverage from the state.  She wanted $100,000,000 from he state of California because they should have prevented this accident.  People sue for all sorts of things looking for a lottery win and lawyers are more than happy to help since they get 40% or more.

Turn on daytime or late night TV and you will see ads from lawyer after lawyer offering to take your case and sue insurance companies or even the state or federal governments on your behalf.  It is a cash grab and none of these lawyers have your best interest in mind.

I have heard that the laws of this great land are too complicated and too numerous for laypeople to understand.  So if I want to incorporate or form a partnership, I probably need a lawyer.  If I have tax problems, I probably need a tax attorney.  So law schools keep cranking out lawyers and as the saturation point is reached, people with law degrees need to find new ways to earn money, like extorting small businesses who have no chance of complying with insane regulations.

Thoughts on “agnostic”

Prior to being a pastor I was a believer in Jesus Christ.  I was raised in church and sought out a church every Sunday no matter where I was.  In other words, I consider myself a true believer in Jesus Christ and the Christian religion.  I am an exception in today’s society.  People who are willing to stand up and state that they are basing their lives on the teaching of Jesus Christ is rare. Many years ago, when I was a computer programmer, I worked with all sorts of people.  Buddhists and Hindus and even some Christians.  Most of the tech crowd were what I would call “casual atheists.”  This means that they never gave church or the Bible a second thought.  They go through life and never think about God.  If asked, many would say they believe in God, probably because they were taken to church as a child.  But any definition of this God could not be given by most of these people. One person I meant actually called himself an agnostic...
