Thoughts on Progressives

Progressivism is a euphemism for socialism. It is an old term that has economic, philosophical and religious aspects to it. In other words, progressivism is a world view.

Economically, progressives are socialists. There are only two basic economic systems in the world, with many variations in each camp. The first is capitalism which is market driven and the second is socialism which is managed. Socialism is usually centrally managed from a series of government offices. Socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried. Depending on how rich the government and how many resources it has, it may take a long time to fail. Usually it morphs into fascism with a dictator and socialism remains in name only. Places like Russia that tried socialism (they called it communism), ended up destroying itself because of the wide spread poverty. Now Putin is essentially a dictator, although economists would call Russia an Oligarchy. It will never work to take the product of the workers and give it to the non-workers. Forcing an equal playing field in every aspect of life is theft. It must be forced tat the point of a gun and will reduce production to the lowest common denominator.

Philosophically, progressive believe in the inherent goodness of people. They believe people are perfectible. Oppression, circumstances, poverty, lack of education and every else that can be seen as external to a person is blamed for their bad behavior and criminal behavior. Sin is never an individuals choice or fault. Therefore progressives love government programs where lots of money is thrown at a problem. The belief is that once people have opportunity they will behave righteously and a utopia will result. This view also believes that people, left to themselves, will always do the right things. So in these massive programs, like Medicare, there is no protection against theft or corruption. On average, $56 billion a year is stolen from Medicare, but they cannot stop it because people are not to blame. Medicare is only one of tens of thousands of programs that are being ripped off and progressives cannot stop it because sin does not fit their world view.

Religiously, progressives believe that the world can be turned into a utopia if we just throw lots of money at problems and give people a chance. So we let in millions of immigrants and let them do whatever they want because, at their core, they are good people. Diversity is the banner that is flown, because human achievement and human desire are the height of evolution. This religious part of progressivism hates all organized religion (except Islam) because Christians and Hindus and Buddhists and Sikhs all have a higher authority than the government. Christians are in the target of progressives now because Christians believe that every inclination of every thought of every person is evil and therefore progressivism is evil. So progressives and Christians are in a conflict of world views.

Where do we find progressives in America? The foundation of the Democratic Party is progressive socialism. Hillary Clinton ran on that, proudly proclaiming she was a progressive. Bernie Sanders dropped the philosophical part of progressivism and called himself a National Socialist. Most established, unelected bureaucrats are progressive socialists. It is the most popular belief system in our federal government.

Cornerstone Fellowship

Cornerstone Fellowship started preaching truth in 1946, right after WW II.  It has been a light in a changing community and a changing world for the past 70 years.  Currently I am the pastor of Cornerstone.  My name is Michael L. Wilson.  It is my goal to preach truth and to explain truth to all who attend.   We subscribe to the reformed view of Christianity which includes the  Five Solas , or the five foundational "only" beliefs.   If you are looking for a Christ Centered church, let me recommend  Cornerstone Fellowship

Thoughts on “agnostic”

Prior to being a pastor I was a believer in Jesus Christ.  I was raised in church and sought out a church every Sunday no matter where I was.  In other words, I consider myself a true believer in Jesus Christ and the Christian religion.  I am an exception in today’s society.  People who are willing to stand up and state that they are basing their lives on the teaching of Jesus Christ is rare. Many years ago, when I was a computer programmer, I worked with all sorts of people.  Buddhists and Hindus and even some Christians.  Most of the tech crowd were what I would call “casual atheists.”  This means that they never gave church or the Bible a second thought.  They go through life and never think about God.  If asked, many would say they believe in God, probably because they were taken to church as a child.  But any definition of this God could not be given by most of these people. One person I meant actually called himself an agnostic...
