The Moral Life

There are benefits to a moral life.  If a person is living a moral life, there is nothing to discover and nothing to bring to the press.  This is important today because of all the accusations, some recent, some very old.  The difficulty of living a lifelong moral life is that it takes time and sometimes it just isn’t fun.

Judge Moore is accused of unethical, not illegal, behavior 40 years ago.  Immoral and unethical behavior can mess up an election, even when the accusations are 4 decades old.  Of course, even the most ethical person can be falsely accused if they allow their life to be exposed in politics.  However, never sleeping around would reduce the chances of being accused of sleeping around.

President Trump is famous for telling each of his children, every morning, “no smoking, no drinking, no drugs.”  Every day of their life they were told this, and it looks like it worked.  The Trump children do not drink, take drugs or smoke and never have.

President Trump’s example is an indicator that most moral lives start early and is encouraged and taught by parents.  I was taught, by example and words, to never drink, never take drugs, don’t sleep around and don’t smoke.  That teaching took me through a stint in the military and coming out unscathed by immoral behavior.

A moral life needs to be the goal of every person who wants to have a public life.  It is possible to live a moral life by force of will and training.  For the Christian, we say that we need to live a holy life.  A holy life, is a moral life on steroids because the motivation matches the actions.  There usually is less hypocrisy in a truly holy life.  A holy life is powered by the Holy Spirit and follows the teachings of Christ, not just general morality.  A Christian needs to seek integrity (being the same in private and public) and having character (a distinctive moral quality) not for our own glory but for the glory of God.

It must also be understood that a person moves from unsaved, spiritually dead, totally depraved and evil to a state of spiritually alive, adopted, justified and able to do good.  So a Christian who has a public life needs to be able to state that he was immoral before he was saved and what that means.  People who dig into the life of a public figure need to find two different lives.  One before Christ and one after Christ and this can be explained.

In todays political and ad hominem attack world, even the most moral person can be accused of the vilest acts.  People will, for the right price, purger themselves in the court of public opinion in order to get a political win.  This is sad, but it is the state of the world.  Jezebel did it in 1 Kings 21 and they caused the death of Naboth.  So there truly is nothing new.  There is no possible way to prove if Judge Moore’s accusers are telling the truth or not.  It is convenient, however, that after 40 years they came out 2 weeks before an election.

Cornerstone Fellowship

Cornerstone Fellowship started preaching truth in 1946, right after WW II.  It has been a light in a changing community and a changing world for the past 70 years.  Currently I am the pastor of Cornerstone.  My name is Michael L. Wilson.  It is my goal to preach truth and to explain truth to all who attend.   We subscribe to the reformed view of Christianity which includes the  Five Solas , or the five foundational "only" beliefs.   If you are looking for a Christ Centered church, let me recommend  Cornerstone Fellowship

Thoughts on “agnostic”

Prior to being a pastor I was a believer in Jesus Christ.  I was raised in church and sought out a church every Sunday no matter where I was.  In other words, I consider myself a true believer in Jesus Christ and the Christian religion.  I am an exception in today’s society.  People who are willing to stand up and state that they are basing their lives on the teaching of Jesus Christ is rare. Many years ago, when I was a computer programmer, I worked with all sorts of people.  Buddhists and Hindus and even some Christians.  Most of the tech crowd were what I would call “casual atheists.”  This means that they never gave church or the Bible a second thought.  They go through life and never think about God.  If asked, many would say they believe in God, probably because they were taken to church as a child.  But any definition of this God could not be given by most of these people. One person I meant actually called himself an agnostic...
