There is a world view that is sweeping America. It is taught in the elementary schools, high schools and colleges. It is portrayed on TV in sitcoms and dramas and it is shown to be a great idea by politicians and news. That world view is humanism. It has gone by many names over the years. It is called secular humanism and fundamental secularism. This view says that people, their ideas, their desires, there dreams and thoughts are the highest good and the best thing there is.
The fight over transgender bathrooms, abortion on demand, climate change, pride parades and other acts of self expression are all part of this worldview. Add to the mix that religious people are called racist, bigoted, prejudiced and closed minded, and you have the marching orders of the fundamental secularists.
The core motivator of this belief system is "whatever feels good". So if helping someone causes me to feel good, then I will help someone, while if hurting someone promotes good feelings, then I do that. This is because feelings are individual and are never explainable. They change from moment to moment. Add to the idea of feeling good something called virtue signaling. Virtue signaling is when I publicly promote a position, like gay marriage, for the sole purpose of having people like me and feel good about me and speak in glowing terms about me. Virtue signaling is seeking the praises of people.
Secular humanism ignores policies that do not have immediate effects. So things that help the economy without pointing to a particular person that is helped, is discouraged. Recently our DC government has been working on revamping the government supported healthcare. Bernie Sanders and Nancy Pelosi both got on national TV and said people would die. Sanders said thousands would die. Pelosi said that hundreds of thousands of people would die. It is the argument of the fundamental secularist that we must put a label of human suffering or human benefit on every law. Truthfully, if the government was instituting a law that would directly cause the death of hundreds of thousands of people, that would mean civil war. An overthrow of the government would be necessary. Of course no one will die as a direct result of any healthcare bills, but the humanist has to make that argument to win the day.
Last year some journalists went undercover into Planned Parenthood, and tried to buy dead baby parts. They got prices and were shown pieces. The journalist were arrested because in the humanist economy, individual choice is above all. Abortion is good because some people desire it. To stop abortion would be evil. So fundamental secularists say we can sell baby pieces and journalist that uncover it are arrested. Add to the list, florists and bakers who are fined and shut down for not support gay marriage events.
A belief system that relies on people’s desires and plans will always end in disaster. The book of Judges is a book in the Bible about the spiraling downfall of Israel over 300 years. The phrase used in that book to describe Israel is this: “They did what was right in their own eyes.”
