What do I want the government to do?

Not much, actually.  I think maintaining a military is a good idea since state sponsored actors need a state sponsored response, so the Fed can have a military.  I like the interstate system.  I makes a way for goods to be trucked across the nation, easily.  I like that, so they can keep that. There needs to be some sort of state sponsored research on diseases and things like that.  This needs to be a non-political, by design, system where people who love science and biology can try things and look at things and even develops preventative systems.  These preventative systems can be offered, but cannot be mandatory.  The government also needs to be funded, and that is by taxes, so the government needs a way to collect those taxes.  Currently it is the IRS, which is a political organization and needs to be abandoned and Lois Lerner needs to be put in a Super-Max prison for the rest of her life.  The Fed also needs to manage international trade and relations.  Individuals and individual states should not be allowed to make treaties and such, but private companies need to be able to trade with companies overseas.  The Fed needs the FBI and the NSA and CIA and things which touch on the military and keep peace at a national level.  State and local government needs police forces, fire suppression and other things to keep the population safe and they are allowed to collect taxes to pay for these things.  Although, I would really like to see a city form a privately funded police and fire force.  Paid for by people in the city, directly to these people.  It would be interesting to see local government, in smaller towns, get out of the police and fire business.

The government must also manage and pay for its three branches.  This takes a degree of staff, but far fewer than the 2,000,000 people on the federal payroll.  Other things that are mentioned in the constitution, like national parks and national forests must exist, and that is fine.

Other than these things, I have no need for the federal or state government.  I believe 85-99% of all regulations can be dissolved and removed.  90% of all executive branch offices can be shrunk or removed.  15,000 people for the FDA is an abuse of power and a waste of money.  Do away with the FDA.  Make drug companies do their own testing and prove to the free market that the drugs are safe.  Keep the courts, if a drug company is negligent, they can be sued in civil court.  Destroy and repeal all nanny laws, take down all signs saying there is no runing in parks and stop all levels and enforcement of the ADA immediately.  Finally make all people who bring a civil suit to court pay their own court expenses.  If I am forced to defend myself against some vulture suing me, and they lose, they pay my court costs.  If they win, the court costs are paid out of the winnings.

Remembering the Franklin Day Planner

This week I have been rereading Hyrum Smith's book "The 10 Natural Laws of Productivity and Happiness." This book was written in the late 1980s and I remember reading it for the first time when I was working at Seagate Technologies, after my time in the Air Force. The core tool talked about in the book is the Franklin Day Planner . I remembering having one such planner, long before smart phones and Palm devices. Mine was a leather bound loose-leaf binder with calendar and note pages in it. I kept my daily tasks list and appointments in that binder, which became a record of my work history at Seagate and beyond. The Day Planner binders, pages and supplies were sold at a store called Franklin Quest , which was located at Valco Mall in Sunnyvale. At that time, I was a computer programmer. I was able to keep a record of all request for software, who made the request and when and what the requirements were. It seemed that I was the only one keeping a record of this b...

Thoughts on the Gap theory

The Bible is a closed book.  When God was done writing the Old Testament, he stopped until Matthew.  When he wrote Revelation, he stopped.  There are warnings in the Bible about adding or subtracting words from the Bible. Deuteronomy 4:2 & 12:32 and Revelation 22:18 are the three most specific.  The idea throughout the Bible is that this book is inspired Scripture and people have no right or authority to add to them or take away. This is why the Gap theory is so strange.  People probably feel it would be too obvious to add 16 extra chapters to Romans or Ephesians, so they try and sneak some extra stuff into Genesis.  That is the Gap Theory. The Gap Theory says that there is a space of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.  The space that some people insert is a couple of hundred years all the way up to billions of years.  The most popular use for the Gap Theory is to put the entire evolutionary process between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1...

Thoughts on the 2017 iPhones

Apple released the iPhone 8 a week or so ago.  Apple will release the iPhone X on November 3, 2017.  This is part of Apple’s current annual release of updated phones with better screens, more battery life and a better processor.  I bought my iPhone 7 plus on release day in September of 2016.  I went to the Apple store and bought it.  When thinking about whether I need to update my phone this year, I need to consider a few things. First, is my phone functional or did I break it?  My phone is in good working order.  The screen is not cracked, the non-existent home button still works.  Volume and power and silent switches work.  Mechanically the phone is in good shape.  It took the IOS 11 and IOS 11.01 updates without a problem. The next question is this:  what do I use my phone for and will a faster phone with a better screen help me do these things? Podcasts:  I listen to many podcasts on my phone.  I listen to a mix ...
